Buch zu gewinnen! (Please tell Your German Speaking Friends!)

If you have got any German speaking friends who like to read romance novels, please let them know they can win a copy of my novel here. They can take part in the competition, no matter which country they are living in. Thank you :)

Viel Erfolg :)

Mein Roman - My Novel

I have just revised my novel for the last time and I will not do it again, as I would find something each time I read it and it would never be finished. With the publication with Books on Demand however I will have to wait until we have got a regular internet connection again. With our present mobile connection I’m unable to upload the files. So I will have to wait until mid-October – even though it is hard to wait!

Es ist offiziell... - It's Official...

Our house is sold and we are going to move by mid-September.

My novel is finished, just have to do some editing. However, I will wait until after our move with the publishing as I have got too much work to do before.

Langsames Bloggen - Slow Blogging

As you have probably noticed, I’m not blogging very much at the moment. This is for two reasons: firstly it is summer and at this time of year I usually am not so much in the mood for blogging; secondly I’m just writing my first novel and that takes a lot of time and creativity, of course. So I will reduce my blogging. I will just post when there is something new I feel like writing about. Please be patient with me. In case you are looking for me you can still find me on Twitter and Facebook ;)

Who would have thought that Fitzwilliam Darcy and Henry Tilney wouldn’t get on well together? Of course I don’t mean the characters of Jane Austen’s novels who never met each other ;) I’m talking about our two budgies who have been with us for a little more than half a year. At first they lived in one cage. But soon we found that Darcy, the blue budgie, thought he was the boss and acted accordingly. Nonetheless we didn’t want to separate them. After some time, however, he got more and more violent. He put his claw on poor Tilney’s breast and tried to push him off the swing. Therefore from today they are living in separate cages and scream at each other from a distance. Tilney seems to feel much better now and already got used to his new home.

North & South 2

Thanks to Simone who kindly lent me the DVD I was able to watch the movie already :) It is very well made and –apart from some minor scenes – close to the book.

Sanditon & The Watsons

Such a pity that Jane Austen wasn't able to finish these to stories any more - otherwise we would have two more of her wonderful novels...

North & South

This movie is on top of my wish list at the moment. The book by Elizabeth Gaskell is definitely worth reading!

Pride and Prejudice

I like the adaptation of 2005 with Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen very much. Being a series, the BBC version of 1995 with Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth is, of course, more detailed and really almost perfect :)

Sense and Sensibility

I like both movies. However, the adaptation of 2007 is more detailed and closer to the book.

Persuasion

The two adaptations can hardly be compared, mainly due to the very different interpretations of the respective characters. I liked them both.

Jane Austen - The World of Her Novels

I have recently finished reading this book and would like to recommend it to all Jane Austen fans! Here is a description from the Amazon website:

With a wealth of fascinating details about Jane Austen's life and times, this book brings to life the world of her novels which have given rise to a spate of films and television dramas: the film,Sense and Sensibility, was a major Oscar winner in 1998; Emma, starring Gwyneth Paltrow, was a huge box office success in 1996; most recently Pride and Prejudice starring Keira Knightley was released.

Austen scholar Deirdre Le Faye first gives a meticulously researched overview of the period, from foreign affairs to social ranks, from fashion to sanitation. She goes on to consider each novel individually, explaining in detail its action, its setting, the reaction of public and critics and Jane's own feeling about it. The lavish illustrations, many never seen before, allow the reader to visualize the places and people of the novels. This book is essential reading for students of literature and of social history, and for all Jane Austen enthusiasts who want to gain a new insight into her work.

Northanger Abbey

After the BBC adaption with Katharine Schlesinger I now watched the one with Felicity Jones. Both versions have been done well and I liked them.

Mansfield Park

It does not seem to be easy to make a movie adaptation of this book. The version of 1999 with Frances O’Connor has got too many experimental components to my taste and some ugly scenes (particularly the open sex scene between Maria and Henry, and the torture drawings by Tom) which in my opinion have got room neither in a romantic movie, nor in an adaptation of an Austen novel. There were also some scenes which do not occur in the novel – obviously they added some parts of Jane Austen’s own biography to the movie. The BBC version with Billie Piper is more authentic – apart from the fact that Fanny’s stay with her own family which plays an important role in the book is simply left out. However, the scenes come too fast after one another and I suppose it is hard to follow the movie if one hasn’t read the novel.

Emma

Meanwhile I have watched the first of the six DVDs, the adaptation of Emma. I cannot really tell whether it is better than the one with Gwyneth Paltrow. In any case I preferred Sophie Thompson over Prunella Scales as Miss Bates – she was so much wackier in this role :)

Austen DVDs

I got these DVDs for Christmas :) As I have already watched other movie adaptations of all Austen novels I wonder what these will be like!

Ich bin... - I am... Anne Elliot!

I am Anne Elliot!
Take the Quiz here!

Yesterday I found a nice little quiz with which you can find out which Austen heroine you are. If you like to have a try, please click on the picture. I found out that I am Anne Elliot the main character from "Persuasion". I was very glad about that, as "Persuasion" happens to be my favorite Austen novel :)

Jane Eyre

Recently I watched the movie „Jane Eyre“ on DVD. The movie is very well done, but of course – like other adaptations of novels – much less complex than the book by Charlotte Brontë. Samantha Morton as a young woman with a plain outer appearance but a smart and critical brain and Ciaràn Hinds as sarcastic and grumpling Edward Rochester are a perfect match. For all who do not know the content, here is a description by Amazon: Jane, the unhappy orphan, grows up to become governess at Thornfield, a gloomy estate owned by the imperious and worldly, but curiously desperate, Mr. Rochester. While the latter's grasping attentions stir the inexperienced young woman, the gothic goings-on at Thornfield suggest layers of unwholesome secrecy in Rochester's life.
